When the Mamba came out and people started going nuts about it, we actually tried it and found that it’s not bad at all – a bit pricey and packaged so well, that it makes you sure the package costs more than the mouse itself, but again – not a bad mouse with nice functionality. But then, is it really worth it at the price of two regular gaming mice?
Razer products are in top of the range and as such, one expects perfect build quality and all, but the Mamba, which is the most expensive mouse Razer currently makes, became notorious for the fact it “squeaks” like real mouse due to small problem with the wheel. And not only that, but it’s side finger-rests quickly became loose in less than a month of regular usage. Now, we know pro gamers can buy stuff often, but at this rate?
What we managed to get our hands on, is almost 5 years old Logitech MX1000, which was the best wireless mouse by the time it was bought (we don’t really know how old it is, but since it wa bought right after its launch, and that was around the end of 2004, you can do the math). I is a real war veteran and it served us well so far. The MX100 still looks great and works almost flawlessly – we only replaced the battery, and not because it didn’t work, but because it started to report itself empty all the time. It can work 5 or 6 days with one charge, and you can play games at least a full day before it drains its battery. Sure, you cannot charge it on USB, but hey, who knew back then that USB can charge mice like this?
Do someone really believe the Mamba will look like our old MX1000 even after an year or so? We don’t buy that, as our Mamba started to break down after less than a month, and the I-hate-you system of cable insertion already tries to avoid its male USB part all the time. Not to mention that someone thought that button on the bottom is going to be convinient for releasing the cable, but it’s a true nightmare to unlock it. Razer also missed the part with Mambas attcahed to notebooks, as it seems there us some bug with it’s software that sometimes (we cannot recreate it ion a regular basis) hangs while exiting standby or hibernation. Plus the sluggish feel of Razer Mamba Configurator and a battery that you cannot trust for a half day of gaming. Don’t say Razer will fix it, as they should have done it before we got it.
There is only one good thing about Mamba – it has that “on the fly” DPI change with OSD, which is really convenient. The rest is a lot of crap about highest DPI ever and the USB/Wireless functionality.
Twisted? Like the Snake itself.
9/10 just because it looks great in its case. Now off to the Microsoft’s Sidewinder X8, which also has more buttons and it costs less…

Higher Twisted Rating is worse!
