Acer releasing new 17-inch Aspire 7740G with DirectX 11 graphics and using all new Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors

We started to look like Acer PR distibution company, but you’ll have to sit quite and leave no objections about it, because we are releasing hot information and there will be one more article about their notebooks. Right now we are talking about new 17-inch model – the Aspire 7740G, which would be based on the new Intel PM55 chipset and equpped with either Core i7 620M, Core i5 430M or Core i3 330M processors and ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650 graphics card with 1 GB GDDR3 video memory.  More details below.

Acer are not planing to change the screens of their 17-inchers and will use the 1600×900 pixels HD+ screen which we find a bit awkward (Dell sells even 15.6-inchers with FullHD screens) compared to FullHD 18=4″ glossy screens and WSXGA+ 15.4″ screens some notebook manufacturers still use in their gaming laptops. (hopefully they’ll do it in 2010 too. Please.) Seems that the full range of multimedia notebooks from Acer, including those based on AMD 32 nm processors (Acer Aspire 7540G) is moving towards the DirectX 11 enabled video cards from ATI, which is a big loss for NVIDIA, as Acer is second largest notebook manufacturer worldwide. ATI made huge move this time, we give them that, and Mobility Radeon HD5650 looks the most promising mid-range mobile VGA ever.

Now to the specs:

We will follow with some more information about Acer’s new 15-inch models soon. The company also works well with AMD and is expected to release a full range of AMD based mid-range notebooks, and they also said that there would be Mobility Radeon HD4570-based Timeline series notebooks in near future.

3/10 for the effort, but we need better screens, not cheaper notebooks!

Higher Twisted Rating is worse!

Higher Twisted Rating is worse!

Update 15.10.2009: Madison Pro is actually the third card in terms of performance after 5870 and 5850 mobile cards, meaning it will be probably named 5750 and include 128-bit memory controller. This is not confirmed, though.

    3 out of 10 ?!
    Are you guys on crack?
While a better screen would yield a better score it seems like you are giving this laptop an unreasonable score just to prove a point.
a score of 7/10 or given the price even 8/10 would be closer to the truth.

    This one is a do-over!

  2. Robert says:

Thank you for this, now i know to never take any of your reviews seriously

  3. michael – our scores are the opposite of what you are accustomed – the higher, the worse. Acer’s new models were extremely hot.

    Robert – why is that?
