Acer 3D-Vision ready 24-incher GD245HQ coming in January

Under: News 10 comments

The 120 Hz mark sound promising not only for those that want 3DVision system, but also for the hardcore gamers who want more frames per second displayed on their screen. Having said that, we expect that the next wave of gaming monitors will be all “3DVision Ready” as part of their marketing value, but what’s better – they will all have virtually lag-free and capable of displaying 120 frames per second. Some time ago we wrote a few details about new 24-inch 120 Hz display from Acer, now it’s time to officially announce it.

acer-gd245hq-120hz-lcd-monitorAcer’s new model is called GD245HQ and it’s part of the G-series gaming displays. Many people feared that Acer would release it only with orange coloring of the frame, but they decided to go on the more traditional and safe way – black trim with orange details on the stand, which eliminates the possible deal-breakers for those that want good looking monitor on their desk. On a side note – Acer didn’t quite released the product, they just announced it on one of their websites (and it’s darn hard to find it), so we were able to get the specifications from there. Originally the news about Acer GD245HQ came from 3DVision Blog here.

Lets have a look at what Acer said about GD245HQ on their website:

Radical design
With a modern tactical fighter-jet inspired look, the radiant-orange beveled fins on the base and sleekly angled matte-black frame create a futuristic appearance. This monitor is an engineering marvel — perfect for your desktop centerpiece!

Ultra-high performance
The brilliant 23.6″ widescreen displays true HD quality at a vivid 1920 x 1080p resolution. Intense, fast-action playback is perfectly smooth with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 2 ms response time, giving you the ultimate gaming experience. The HDMI™ and dual-DVI interfaces provide advanced connectivity to the latest graphics cards and digital video sources.

Immersive 3D visuals
Take advantage of this monitor’s state-of-the-art capabilities by upgrading to a fully immersive stereoscopic 3D experience with NVIDIA® 3D Vision™. A combination of high-tech wireless glasses and advanced software — 3D Vision™ automatically transforms hundreds of PC games into immersive 3D graphics. You can even watch movies and view digital pictures in lifelike realism.

As one can expect – a lot of big words and nothing that would make you buy it, except the fact it’s 23.6″ and it’s the first 120 Hz capable monitor offering such size. Asus is also expected to release 120 Hz display (hopefully before the holidays) but we’ll follow it in another article. For now – take a look at the specs:

Its TN panel has low-end color rendition, but that’s to be expected as it is gaming display and not one made for photo-editing. The rest is impressive and it will make Samsung and Viewsonic’s 22-inchers look unattractive, as they only offer only 1680×1050 pixels resolution compared to the Full HD image of Acer GD245HQ (1920×1080 dots). It’s promising but we do not know the price yet, so we won’t rate it as we usually do.

Well, it’s now March 31, 2010 and for something that was coming in January 2010, it’s a long time coming ! Maybe they are shipping them via UPS or Purolator as either one might get to market sooner or later.

  9. As it turned they had to wait for fermi to show around the corner, as the old GeForce cards up to GTX 285 couldn’t support well such high resolution.
